    Hi everyone

I use my laptop [bought from the uk and with win vista on it] and use it on my travels also.
Can I buy Win OS , be it 7 or 8.. purchased from another country [not the UK] and install it on
laptop which is for personal use ?

Will i incus additional charges ? has anyone has had personal experience down this road?

(Just lost my response due to a 500 server error here! - try again....

    For Windows 7:
Some countries have Geo-Blocked versions which are cheap - but cannot be activated or validated outside their home region, so will quickly show as non-genuine when you get back to the UK.
Bear in mind also that 'cheap' also often means 'fake'!

For Windows 8 you need to be aware that you will effectively be reformatting the machine - so back up to external media first!
I don't believe that Win8 has GeoBlocking - but I can't swear to it, as I haven't seen many such machines.

I'd buy Win7 Upgrade version locally, boot the installer to do a Clean Install Windows 7, deleting all partitions during Steps 7 and 8. With Vista on the HD it will allow inputting the Product Key during install.
