I was just trying to explain why your mate might think its faster.
Like i said, your mate says so and thats based on his testing so i would believe him but that might not be true for everyone's PC.

there is nothing in ultimate that makes it faster. nor in home.

i'm no expert, and haven't run tests, but i suspect that home may be a slight teensy-weensy tad faster, because it's a bit liter.

the possible difference in performance isn't worth worrying about - the difference in price is! there's no point spending a lot extra for ultimate if you don't need the extra features.

besides the artificial RAM limit (16GB in HP and 192GB in Ultimate)

and the CPU/cores limit (1 CPU in HP and 2 CPUs in Ultimate)

ok fair enough sup3rsprt - but how many of us need and use more than 16 gigs of ram?

that's the only thing that made me think twice about getting home - until i realised that 16 should do me for a few more years, and by then the next os will probably be out.

HP is also limited to one CPU

Who needs it and who doesn't is not my point. My point is that Ultimate has the potential to be faster than Home edition. Not the other way around.

Just because your friend tells you something, doesn't make it factual.

Just because Ultimate has more stuff would not make it slower...after all not EVERYTHING and EVERY FEATURE is running all at the same time. There is ZERO performance difference between Ultimate and Home Premium.

As pparks1 said in a thread just like this: https://www.sevenforums.com/304889-post8.html

Myth? : Ultimate faster than Professional?
We have a little debate that I'd like to put to rest: Windows 7 Ultimate (or Vista Ultimate for that matter) runs faster than the Professional or Home Premium editions. I believe this is not true. Ultimate will not run faster; it just comes with more stuff. A computer would run the same with either...
