Toshiba Tecra r940 keeps freezing and hanging

So i got a toshiba from my school, however, everytime im doing something, whether im on word or chrome, it keeps freezing up for about 12 seconds, then resumes to what i was seeing or typing, ive already taken it to the help desk however all they did was a system image restore. Also VMWare does not work, ill install a OS and upon reboot, ill be stuck at the VMware post forever until i have manual hold the power button and it will shut down, regularly shut down the laptop does not work. Ive also done a memtest and it passed so what could it be?

Establish a Clean Boot with only a lightweight AV like MSE starting with Windows, test the hardware, check the logs for repeat errors, utilize the SYstem Resources to check for Solutions to problems and Generate a System Health Report, and the other Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

If hardware is sound then I'd consider doing the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

ProG having a bit to do with Toshibas Gregs second suggestion is by far the best thing to do mate they carry about as much crapware as anything you will ever come across.

My two have SSD's as I only use for casual stuff but if you can afford a larger one they will knock the backside out of the machine:)
