    Cannot print jpegs

Using Windows 7 HP SP 1, I cannot print a jpeg file from any Microsoft software either embedded in Windows nor MS Office. I can print a jpeg from Lightroom or Photoshop, but not a Microsoft product. I can print pdf files, documents, email, spreadsheets, anything you can think of, but not a jpeg from Windows. Printer is connected via USB. Printer is an Epson WP-4020. I have uninstalled and reinstalled printer software, called Epson and they were very good at helping me with no success. They referred the problem to Microsoft. I have seen a few similar problems from others in some forums, but no real solutions. My only guess is to reinstalled Windows, but that is more than I am willing to do on my own. I get appropriate wizard and dialogue boxes, but the only response from the printer is an out of paper or jam indication that is cleared from the dialogue box. Printing another file format is then normally accomplished. This is not a printer problem in my estimation, but some remote corrupted file (??.dll) somewhere in Windows. Any suggestions?

Some information about printer model and how it is hooked up would be helpful. Do you get any error message or does the printer just hang? Print garbage? What exactly?

Printer is an Epson WP-4020 connected via USB. Printer shows a paper problem light, there is no problem, and a corresponding printer error dialogue box on the computer. Clicking OK clears the problem and I can then print any other file format with no problem. Also please remember that I can print a jpeg file from photo processing software like Photoshop and Lightroom.

    mrmcmahan,
Welcome to SF. Look to clear the print jobs possible stuck in the computers print queue as well turn off printer and re-boot it to clear it and report.

If you suspect a bad .dll, I suggest you do a Repair Install

If possible I'd suggest hooking it up to a machine as similar to yours as possible. The old "divide and conquer" hardware vs software routine. If someone else can print with MS software then you may have corrupted files. If they get the same issue, then you can save yourself some aggravation as it may be an MS bug.

    linnemeyerhere,
This was the first thing I did when I noticed the problem. It has been done numerous times since. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the printer with same results more than once. This was also Epson's first response.

    MileAhead,
Should have mentioned this in the post: I have a laptop with Windows 7, but using the printer wirelessly and it prints jpegs from that computer. Maybe I should connect it up via USB and see what the results are.

WHS, I will look at the tutorial and see if it is something that I want to attempt.
    Thanks for the link.

I've had a couple of Epson Stylus LPT/USB printers. Sometimes they insist on installing a funky driver when you hot plug them USB. You can't always update the driver if it's in the firmware. I don't know if it applies to your model. But it's possible.
