Dell Studio won't boot to os

My Dell Studio 1537 Just stopped booting to OS. I turn it on it goes to the dell logo then to choose an option Eg. Test Memory Test System Exit. I can't even get into safe mode. I went to test system and it goes to main menu Service tag 5SLGZIS With tags Express Test Extended Test Custom Test Symptom Tree. I went to system tree and selected Cannot boot OS and pressed run tests it comes up with error code 0F00.075D Msg_0-self-test Read error. I can't believe this has happened because my 2 TB hard Ext hard drive just crashed now my laptop has done the same can someone please help me.

It sounds like the hard drive has failed. Doing a Google search for the error code all say the hard drive has died.

BTW, you should edit your post and remove the service tag number. Dell considers this personal data (and is forbidden on the Dell users forum).

Have you Run Built-In Diagnostics for Your Dell Computer | Dell US to test the hardware. Reboot and tap the F12 key to trigger Diagnostics from the menu.

If it won't run enter BIOS Setup at boot to see if the HD is detected. If not then the HD needs reinstall to see if it has come loose and can be detected at all. If not it needs replacing.

If HD tests OK then work through the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

The Dell Hardware diagnostics are on a separate partition on the hard drive. If the drive completely failed, the diagnostics will not be available.

So I went back to the bios and disabled the hard drive and inserted my window 7 DVD into the DVD ROM drive and tried to do a reinstall but it kept on saying could'nt install in the drive it is damaged I then deleted all the partitions with the window disk still running and formatted c drive I went back to the bios reinnabled the hard drive then tried to install windows again on c drive and it worked thanks for your help

You can determine with certainty the condition of the HD by running the maker's HD Diagnostic
extended CD scan, followed by a full Disk Check.

Until then I would not rely on the HD and keep my data backed up in real time using a method like Sync, Backup and Store your Files to the Cloud with Skydrive - Windows 7 Forums
