Windows 7 Black Screen on start up

My computer had started acting a little funny before this issue had arived. It showed a significant slowdown on startup and applications took a while to start and sometimes would not work at all, but i did not address the issue because i did not install anything recently other than software to enable a ps3 controller on my computer from motioninjoy. I have heard/ seen many negative things about this program and regret ever installing it on my computer. Also the emulator I was using was pcsx2.

I am not able to start in safe mode because the screen goes black before i get the chance. I only get the initial boot up screen where i can press f2 or f12 and then it goes black

i have been using my computer on this particular setup for 3 months now and nothing has ever caused a problem, please help me i need this computer for school work!

    my specs are
    dell studio xps 8100
    radeon hd 5700
    8gb ram
    intel i7
hooked up to a hp w2072a monitor using a dvi connection

    some additional information:
when left on for an extended period of time my graphics card starts to work hard but nothing comes up and the screen evenually turns a pale blue (not the normal bluescreen) and no text comes up

I think it is a driver issue but I am not sure any feed back would be appreciated!

Do a System Restore to before you installed the ps3 controller software, see if that resolves the problem. The easiest way to start SR is click on Start then type system restore and press enter.

You might have a bad power supply, or your CPU power connector might be loose. Try opening the case and check that all of your power connections are secure.

I would think not? I have not moved the tower since I had set it up there. Wouldn't those problems need to be caused by something? I will however give it a look just in case thank you for your suggestion

The constant heating and cooling of your computer can cause connections to work their way loose. Also, the vibration from your fans...

It may not be the problem, but it's always good to check.

I just checked the connections and they all seem good, I even unplugged and re-plugged the power to the cpu. I'm going to be going home soon so I will be able to pick up my windows 7 os discs and attempt to restore my computer then. I will keep you guys updated and thank you for helping me I'm in a tight spot right now.

To follow up on my previous post I have my recovery discs but I am having trouble restoring the system/ finding the problem. At this point I just want my computer back at any cost meaning I do not mind a full system reboot or format of the hard drive. If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great. I can boot the PC strait from the cd drive so loading the discs is no problem, I just underestimated how complicated doing this with no prior knowledge is.

When you put the recovery disks into the drive and boot from it, what kind of menu do you get? Are there some options?

You stated you don't mind starting all over again.
The quickest resolution if you don't mind starting all over again:

Clean Install Windows 7 <---Custom build

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 <---Factory build, HP, Dell, acer, lenovo etc.

To avoid this in the future and easily restore your system no matter what, see here:

Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

If you prefer and have a little time and want to fix the issue, continue with Mellon Heads instructions, or try a quick Repair Install without losing any data.
