Windows Explorer has stopped working. (ie4nutit.exe)

Hello all, in the last 24 hours i have installed a recent windows update, restarted my computer and signed into my account, as soon i did i received the error ie4nutit.exe not responding.

So i tried turning it off and on again (with my fingers crossed)

Now all i am getting when i sign in is "Windows Explorer has stopped working" then a "close program"

i have tried opening in safe mode but this does not change anything, the only things i can access are cmd.exe and task manager.

If anyone can help me with this it would be much appreciated.

P.s - i also need to keep my files as this is a work laptop, so wipe/restoring the laptop is out of the question.

Try System Restore to before the update was applied.

Of special interest is the 2nd method:

METHOD TWO:
Through System Recovery Options at Boot

Note: This will allow you to restore Windows 7 to a earlier restore point with a Windows 7 installation disc from the System Recovery Options screen at bootup. This can be handy if you cannot startup Windows 7.

This was not possible with XP, not sure about Vista.

Would i lose any of my files as there are very important documents on this laptop that can not be lost? :)

No, system restore does not touch your files. It only affects system files.

Having said that. If you do not have your important data backed up I would strongly urge you to do so now, before you do anything else.

If you do not have a Windows 7 installation DVD, or it's not up to the Service Pack level currently installed, you can download a legal copy with SP1 integrated from here: Windows 7 Direct Download Links Make sure you get the same version you have, Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate and 32 or 64 bit. Note that Basic or Starter is not available. I recommend using ImgBurn at 4X speed (or the slowest available) to create the DVD from the downloaded .iso file. Just be careful during the install not to accidentally install some of the bundled junk that comes with it. Always take The Custom Install option. You can do this on any computer capable of burning a DVD. YOU MUST HAVE A VALID KEY TO INSTALL THIS .ISO. The one on the COA sticker on your computer will work. You can also create a bootable USB Flash drive (4GB or larger) to install Windows 7 from.

Download and run Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3
Select Windows 7 from the first drop down list, all the way to the bottom
Select the downloaded Windows 7 iso file
Select your USB flash drive
Click Create

For techies or folks who work on computers: Create Windows 7 Universal ISO With All Editions Selection On Install with ei.cfg Removal Utility. This will fit on a 6GB flash drive or can be burned to a DVD.
