I appreciate all the replies guys, I really do, but judging from the majority of your posts, seems like I should just stick with 7, for now, atleast, maybe not till Microsoft decides to shove 8 on everyones throats when they retire 7.

Anyway, I was then wondering what are like the major differences Win 7 and 8 has, i mean ofcourse aside from the start menu interface that really does take time to get used to. Any other specific things that 8 has and 7 doesn't that boosts performance? Any detail and info would be great. Yes, I can just read up on it or whatever, but I prefer hearing these kinds of things from knowledgeable users who have at least tried it.

    Thanks again guys!

    P.S.

I'm thinking of installing a copy of it on one of my work computers. just for kicks. lol.
You should post on the eight forums also and ask. Installing a copy on one of your work computers is a good idea. Nothing better than trying it to see for yourself.

I love windows seven and still use it at my house. I use eight at work and have got over the learning curve of something different, and find it to be quite good.

Btw, one more thing that bothers me, is the search bar, i mean, in windows 7 you just have to tap the windows logo and then type at once, its one of the small things i liked about 7 which got its idea from mac os x (spotlight). Is there a similar way to do this in 8? I mean I know what happens when you tap the windows logo on your keyboard on windows 8.

Windows phone 8 apps cannot be developed without windows 8. MS shove it on developers throats and they don't have any other choice. I installed it on virtual machine but it is very slow. So I decided to buy Windows 8.1 and going to install it as dual boot for app development. I am not going to leave Windows 7 anytime soon.

Ah, just like ios apps can't be developed without OS X. I see. Well, as for me, I'm not into developing APPS. I'm trying to study web development, PHP, SQL, CSS, all that stuff.

If you are happy even with windows XP you should use XP :), there is no particular reason to migrate to windows 8 if you like your win7 and have no problems with it.

That alone kills 8.0 and 8.1 for me (there are several other reasons, as well). M$ requires one to enable all cookies, not just theirs, to get and use an account and that just isn't going to happen on any computer of mine. It's my darned computer and I will be the one determining what cookies gets put on my computer.

There will be something else out by the time Win 7 retires.

That's only if you want to use the Microsoft store to get apps.

I am using 8.1 without the need of Microsoft account. During the installation when it asked for your Microsoft account make up a fake e-mail address and password and once it checks and finds it's not valid it give the option to create a local account.
