Close Laptop Lid & Icons Get Bigger?

if i close my laptop lid for a long period of time and open it again my desktop icons will have changed themselves to large

my settings are currently not to do anything when the lid closes, plugged in or on battery

havent noticed if this problem happens when unplugged - this last time it was plugged in

this doesnt happen if i just close and reopen my lid right away

my icons are set to medium and i have recently made my resolution bigger, but it did this before too so i cant think of any more settings that could be affecting this

also i still have all the little rubber 'buffer' pads keeping the lid from the keyboard so i dont think any of the keys are getting pressed when closed

why is this happening and can i stop it? i hate having to reset and realign all my icons

i have an Acer Aspire One running Windows 7 64-bit with an AMD processor

The desktop is a mixture of two folders - please try these steps:
Folder View Settings - Reset All to Default
    Then restart the computer.
Set the settings for the desktop icons like you like them...
    ...and restart once more.

Now test your issue by closing the lid for a while.

If the issue persists, see if you can find more newer video drivers.

    Hello Orphanedhanyou,

Sounds like the user profile may be corrupt.

Try SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Requires reboot if integrity violations are found.

    Then Icon Cache - Rebuild
    Requires a reboot, as well.

If these do not work, try creating a new user profile and see if the issue remains.

    Create User Account

    Fix a corrupted user profile

Don't forget to make a backup of all the files you want to keep.

    Hope this helps,
    John

it finally happened again - but this time it was after just putting it to sleep for the night.

and the icons were HUGE! 4 took up the ENTIRE screen.

'Large' was selected when checking 'View' but after going to medium and back to large they were no where near how big they were upon awakening.

will try fixing the user profile next. thanks for the suggestions!

also would anyone mind helping me with another problem with media player classic?
