    Not showing drives or folders

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on a Compaq laptop that is 2.5 years old. Recently all the drives disappeared from the My Computer folder and the list of folders, networks, and home groups on the left are cleared out. Even the Control Panel is empty. I can however in the address bar type in where I want to go with a specific address to a folder or item in the control panel and get there. It is my wife's computer and it is driving her nuts. Suggestions?

See if "Unhide" will show everything again. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/unhide.exe (by Grinler)
Once the program has been downloaded, double-click on the Unhide.exe icon on your desktop and allow the program to run. This program will remove the +H, or hidden, attribute from all the files on your hard drives. If there are any files that were purposely hidden by you, you will need to hide them again after this tool is run."

An sfc /scannow in Command Prompt may also help. It looks like your Explorer is corrupted.

And if that does not help, run a repair install. Repair Install

Thank you for the replies and help! I performed the unhide and everything is back! Happy wife now! Somehow my 22 month old son probably messed with something when she didn't see. But that did the trick. I am assuming that was all and that Explorer is not corrupt. Time will tell. All I know is that I am going to create a restore point to this stage. Thanks again for the help!
