Dual Monitor issue after Sleep, Secondary Screen Apps move to Primary
I recently switched to a dual monitor set up using my LapTop/Docking Station and 2 Monitors. (I added a second monitor to my Docking Station and closed the Laptop Screen.)
I previously used a Monitor and my Laptop Screen. (The Monitor was set as Primary, and the Laptop screen as Secondary. The Monitor was set to the Sub-D on the Docking Station.) When I had the Monitor/Laptop setup -all open applications and desktop icons stayed in place. With the two monitor set up, the applications open on my Secondary Monitor move to the Primary after Waking Up, and the Desktop icons on my Primary shift around. (I have to drag everything back...) This is annoying, please assist... Dell Laptop (Latitiude, 32OS Intel Core i5 2540M CPU) Viewsonic VX2240w (Primary Monitor) VDI Dell E1911 (Secondary Monitor) Sub-D Thanks for the Support |

Have you tried disabling the laptop monitor entirely? Also, try setting your icons up as you prefer, then doing a full reboot.

Thank You... The laptop lid is closed and does not appear on my Graphics Options set up. One interesting think is...that when I power off for the evening, and start up in the morning - the Apps I open appear on the correct monitors... the issue only appears to be when my screens shut down after no-use (20min, or so), and I wake them - that the Open Apps move from Monitor 2 to Monitor 1, and the icons on Monitor 1 shift positions...

Docking Station is a Dell. I switched both monitors to the VDI connections in the back. (Originally was: M1=VDI, M2=SubD.) I made sure M1 is in Video 1, and M2 is in Video 2....

I also turned off the Monitor (Sleep or Hybernate??) in the Power settings, so I may have overridden any issues by never having my monitors turn themselves off while I'm away from my desk for 1/2hr... Thanks for providing us this information. However, it is unclear as it could either be VGA or DVI. I beg your pardon but I could not make out when you said using a VDI connection. Kindly let us know this clearly and also let us know if you have checked a different video cable to isolate the issue. Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further. |
