    Greg can correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe if you aren't going to install in UEFI mode you don't need a specially prepared UEFI thumb drive. You should be able to just use something like the Windows 7 DVD Download tool to do it. That's what I use. Microsoft Store

    Thanks Alpha and Greg for all your help. I ended up having a mate over to have a look and he did a clean install, saving all files and apps. Am now reinstalling updates.

    Remember to stick with the steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
    to get and keep a perfect install.
