System hangs at random times, Solid HDD light

I am having a very frustrating intermittent problem. Windows 7 64 bit. The system freezes, sometimes for just a few seconds and sometimes permanently and I have to do a hard shutdown. When it is throwing its fit, the HDD light is lit up solid. I can usually still move the mouse, but the taskbar is locked.

I have a SSD and a 500g HDD, both of which passed chkdsk with no errors or bad sectors. I unplugged the 500g drive and the problem still happens. I'm just wondering what I should try next, it has been doing this since it was new and I am wondering if my memory or SSD is defective.

Hello and welcome Ben I can't find a specific testing program from Kingston but see if you can run this on it AS SSD Benchmark 1.7.4739 Download - TechSpot

If the drive is bad then I am guessing maybe it will not run correctly on this.
