How do i make a cd copy of favorites ?

Hello, I Have win 7 ultimate 64-bit with IE 10. I'm trying to make a cd copy of my favorites (bookmarks). I've exported them to a desktop folder/file. When I insert a cd (I have autorun enabled), I click 'burn to disc'. I've tried copy and paste, and double clicking the file, etc. but I'm told there's no file selected. I've made these cd's from time to time and can't think of anything I'm doing wrong. I'm using a DVD-R disc. Can you advise? Thanks... Steve

Hello and welcome Steve mate I didn't know that there could be so much to go wrong all I do is copy/paste links whatever to a dedicated document and right click > send to > optical drive. It opens I insert a disk in and it burns.

Just out of interest why are you using a DVD when there is a ton of space on a plain CD?? An alternative would be a USB stick I suppose.

    Thanks Aussie

Appreciate the response. I'll try a USB stick. Just had some discs around. I may have other problems though...

Ok steve it might be an idea to run these if only to eliminate a problem in the filing systems

steve another method of backing up your bookmarks is to use Xmarks .
xmarks is an online account that syncs your bookmarks and when you create new ones it uploads them when you close the browser,
all you need to do is install it and create an account. you can have it installed on several browsers I.E, chrome ,firefox even safari

all you have to do is sign into it once then it stays signed in, if you have a desktop and a laptop when you create a bookmark on one pc it shows on your other as long as you have it installed on both.

i have used it for years
i only use it for one browser as i did once have a problem with it syncing with firefox and chrome.
as i only use one browser all the time it doesn't matter.

the beauty of xmarks is it backs up to the online account which you can access from anywhere without installing , for instance if you were browsing on a public library computer then you could log in and see your bookmarks.
and its in real time so no need to make a new cd everytime you have a new bookmark.

there is nothing wrong with having a physical back up too,but xmarks is a very good alternative.

If you use IE the Favorites file under your User name stores those Bookmarks so it can be backed up along with the other User folders. If it's another browser just export it to Documents for backing up along with that folder, or copy it to your storage media by drag and drop.

    Thanks for the help

I went with the X PASS option, and may also go with a USB stick. A little reluctant to use command prompt stuff. Thanks again...
