Windows 7 X64 Freezing when idle

Currently running it just now , been sitting a while and doesn't seen to have made much progress. Have you any idea of how long it takes ?

It's as if it has frozen , only way it get out of program was by Ctrl alt del

Tried making an image of my hard drive on a few different programs however they all failed for some reason or another , looks to me as if the hard drive is on it's way out. However , backed up all important files and treat myself to a nice new 500GB SSD. I'm assuming once i've got that all connected with the laptop i can just install W7 from install disc and install old software etc?
