Windows 7 starter running slow all the time

    Hi,

I owned an acer netbook (can't remember the model number) for 2 years and it ran brilliantly. Very fast and responsive with windows 7 starter. I had to replace it this year due to a hardware fault and so I decided to go again with an Acer netbook. This time the slightly newer Aspire- D270. I uninstalled all the Acer bloatware and I installed basic programs (firefox, skype, Avg free, Oceanis, Microsoft Office 2010 suite and Realplayer). It is running frustratingly slow. The internet takes about 40-50 seconds to open after clicking.

I have done a system restore 3 times now but the problem is never fixed. I tried to install linux mint in it's place but that ran slow also so reverted to windows 7 starter. Does anyone know what could be causing this and can you provide any assistance or advice.

    Thanks!

Is it out of warranty? It sounds like hardware if Linux is slow as well as Windows.

Technically yes, as I bought it on ebay from a third party but it came in a sealed acer box so it is as if it was new. I only have had it for a month.

I would give Acer support a try. If nothing else they may diagnose the problem over the phone for free. Then you might have an idea where you're at before laying out any cash.

Test the hardware, replace the AVG bloatware with MSE, establish a Clean Boot, check the System FIles and resources working through Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

Sometimes just cleaning up the crippling bloatware is not enough, which is why most tech enthusiasts prefer to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If he's getting dog slow in Linux as well then it's probably either hw or something below the OS. He should try to trade it for one not broken if he can talk the PC maker into it. :)
