NAS VS External Hard Drive Enclosure

    Hello

I am looking between NAS system or External Hard Drive Enclosure
the max i can spend is $550

at this moment i have 5 drives that i cant add to my pc as i am max out

I would love to buy Synology DS1513+ Network Storage for $ 800 USD but i dont have the money for it and i cant find older model of it

My next option was drobo 5n $550 more or less but one problem i read this http://www.macdrifte...nology-nas.html which indcate my hard drives will be not avilable on other systems which is big no no

so then my other options are USB 3.0 and eSATA i have 2 unit in mind both are 8 bay

    first one is :
    Mediasonic H82-SU3S2 ProBox 8 Bay
Mediasonic H82-SU3S2 3.5" Black USB3.0 & eSATA ProBox 8 Bay External Hard Drive Enclosure

    Second Option is :
    Rosewill RSV-S8 8-Bay
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16816132016

again my system is X64bit and it is AMD

Can someone advise me on which option will be better or if you guys know a unit that will work better that will be great

    Thank you

    Hey,

I would go with second option. I see more options in that and it is cheaper.

    These are few of them.

    Expansion
    3.5" Drive Bays
    8x Hot-Swappable 3.5", up to 4TB each; 2.5" also supported
    Features
Access to 8 Hard Drives while using two cables via Port Multiplier function.

Looking at the page for this on Newegg. This product has 38% voting for "5 eggs".

Read some feedbacks from users as well. Below are few for your reference.

Pros: Fits 8 Bays, can run/mount them independently.

    Decent looking box.

Cons: Constantly have problems with drives going to sleep (not using green drives). Today, after almost exactly a year, the box stopped working and drives won't mount.

Pros: Easy to install the drives, just pop the plastic piece on with 2 screws and put the drive in, that's all. Fans are quiet and the build quality is great.

Cons: There are issues with this enclosure, I have a NEC Renascence USB 3.0 controller I use this with on an ACER laptop. Have been dealing with disconnect issues if I oversaturate the connection, the enclosure will drop all the drives and you have to wait for it to bring it back online. I have upgraded the firnware on the NEC USB controller and drivers, it has lessened the occurrences but I can still cause it if I try.

These users are reputed user on Newegg.

Well, we all know that all the products will have their pros and cons. Even if the product is expensive or cheap. Our main concern is, which one to chose? :)

Even if Rosewill is "little" cheaper, it does not mean it would not have those qualities. Let me give you my own example. My wife bought a 500$ mobile and she loves it more than me.

And I have a cheap (but with all the features my wife's mobile has) mobile and I love both of them.

I will again suggest to go with Rosewill.
