Welcome to sevenforums ,
what icons are they? , the shield usually means it runs with admin rights, or it will ask you to ok it when you try to run it.
the icons with security shield are aol an msconfig short cut
if you right click them and select properties is there a checked box or tab that says run as administrator?
if so uncheck it then apply /then ok and the shield should go.
The shields could also be a false (infection) security program.
If those icons got on your desktop without you putting them their I would be very careful about opening them until you know where they came from.
no there is not a checked box that says run as administor
Heres what Microsoft says to do. Straight from the horses mouth so to speak : How to get rid of the small shield on my shortcut icons? - Microsoft Community
Welcome to the forums by the way!
I agree about running full malware scan. Might be interesting to note the icon's target properties.
Aol still in business ..
I run anti virus & malware 3 to 4 times a week. also in compatibilty there is a box for adminastrator but it is not checked. guess this is something i'll have to live with. thank you everybody for all your great help. love this help site and will use it often
