No. Your OS will clone over as-is, product key and settings included.

Sorry. I'll finish what I was gonna say..

The hard disk I wish to clone is out of a Win 7 laptop & is being hooked up to (via USB) by an external disk case to my new Win 8 laptop. Does the different OS matter? Because the disk being cloned ("Disk A") is being cloned by a Win 8 pc, does that mean that I'll have Win 7 on my new laptop (utilizing the cloned disk) or what?

Thank you again

You want to clone, so make an EXACT copy. You can make an EXACT copy with special software. For example macrium reflect recovery DVD. Or special software in winxp, linux,OSX .... whatever.

After cloning you have an EXACT copy of the disk. After succesfull cloning you can transfer that disk to another PC. Use procedure Windows 7 Installation - Transfer to a New Computer afterwards.
Or just attach the clone to the new pc and do Make Windows 7 bootable after motherboard swap ... it's just a few clicks. What's the brand/model of the new laptop?

Which harddrive.... the external with win7 or the internal with win8? What do you want to do if you can read it? It's readable right now I think... any error message?

The reason I told u I had it in an external case is just to be clear FYI.

Thanks
You can't boot win7 from external disk!
This person is right. Generally speaking in order to install and or run windows it needs to be on a internal drive.
