So you have two laptops. One with win7 and one with win8... correct?

Why are you telling "I have a hard drive in an external case"? What is the purpose of telling that?

"How can I make it boot up just like it did in the Win 7 laptop?" =>You just want an exact clone?

No... you can't boot win7 from usb.

So you can boot from usb stick/drive.... but not win7.
