Desktop freezing immediatly after I login

Hello, new desperate forum member here.

I originally was working on removing some bookmark dll issue popup message on my dad's laptop (ASUS). Before I found a way to resolve the issue by editing a task in the task scheduler, I downlaoded and ran the Advanced SystemCare on the laptop to run all the scans. I noticed one of the scans said the Intel Display Audio driver was outdated so I went ahead and told the software to go ahead and download/install the latest driver and when I rebooted it was stuck on some windows update so I rebooted and manually installed the drivers from Intel myself. I even ran Driver Reviver to ensure the drivers on the laptop looked good.

Soon after that I went ahead and fixed the bookmark dll issue but also noticed that about 5 minutes of activity, the laptop suddenly freezes. It has progressively gotten worse to the point where now, it freezes immediately once I login with my windows credentials.

I am able to log into safe mode with networking without any issues. NO hanging.

I have attached the results from the SF Diagnostic Tool for your reference (ran in Safe mode). Would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide. Thanks!

Also, when I go into msconfig, the issue is also not seen when I choose "Diagnostic startup". If I choose Selective startup, (both Load system services and load startup items boxes checked) the issue occurs again.

Hello charn76, Welcome to Seven forums.

Freezing can be caused by many reasons and there are many solutions to it as well. :)
Let's try them one by one.

1. Remove batteries and take out the power cord. Let the system sit for 5 mins. Plug them all back. Check.

2. Run Malware bytes, CCleaner to check for any errors in safe mode. they will fix the errors. Check.

3. Do a system restore. Here's how you do it. System Restore. Check

4. Mostly system freeze just after boot can be caused by graphic card drivers. Download driver sweeper. Download the latest drivers for your graphic card (BTW, please update your system specs. :) ). Uninstall the old drivers. Run driver sweeper to clear out the left overs of the old driver. Install the latest drivers.

Check and keep us posted. :)

That's your first problem. Stay away from programs like that. They cause more harm then good. Stay away from registry programs, cleaners and other optimization programs. They are completely unnecessary.

The only exception to this rule is ccleaner. And even then you want to use caution.

System Restore to before you ran the crapware, from System Recovery Options

Go over your install thoroughly using the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 which will reveal any problems and help you optimize it best, with what works best for Win7.

Archer/Greg/Andrew, System Restore did the trick thank god! I def learned my lesson and will be removing the Advanced System care immediately and then taking another restore point in case something bad happens again in the future. If for whatever reason I cannot get into SafeMode in the future to do another restore, is there a way I can generate some form of boot/recovery disk if I don't have the Win7 cd? No Cds/software care with my Asus. Thanks again!

Yes, make a System Repair Disc - Create .

Apportion as much space as you can spare for System Protection - Change Disk Space Usage.

After going over your install using Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 to optimize and resolve any issues,
save a backup image externally to use in case Win7 ever becomes irreparable.

Keep regular file backups or use a modern cloud method like Sync, Backup and Store your Files to the Cloud with Skydrive - Windows 7 Forums
