Random shutdowns (No BSOD, No Minidump) Losing power?

I have a Lenovo W530 that's about a year old and I've been experiencing some random shutdowns. I've checked the event log to see if anything happened at the time of shutdown, however there is nothing. No minidump, no bsod. The laptop acts as if someone has pulled the battery out. (I tried wiggling the battery to reproduce the shutdown with no avail. I'm wondering if it's hardware related (RAM, Power supply?) I the windows memory test (the one you can do before you start windows) and it came back with no errors.

Anything else I could try to figure out what the problem is?

pulled the battery out (running on just the AC adapter) and the computer has not randomly shut down since.

Any ideas?

do you leave it plugged in all the time? even when the battery is charge? in other words does your battery last about 5 mins because its been poorly conditioned?
If so chances are theres a safety cut off which stops your battery dropping to an unsafe voltage (lithium ion batteries tend to go bang if they go fully flat).

Sounds like your battery might have a partially bad cell(s). I would try testing it with a spare one if you have access to one. Also, you might check the power management settings in both the bios and within windows. And lastly; if you can, take your battery to a local shop if possible and have it tested.

EDIT: and yes like badger above mentioned; there might be a voltage cutoff; and also the battery might not have been "conditioned' properly.

No my battery last at least a few hours. (probably around 4?) But I probably do leave it plugged in too much. will test with a different battery and see if I can get the battery tested. Thanks for the help
