Newly built computer, Bios freezes after few seconds of entering

I have just recently build a new computer for the first time with a friends help and after finishing setting up all of the hardware, my friend and I tried booting up the computer and enter the bios to change the default settings to accept a USB to install the software, but after 1 or 2 seconds upon entering bios, the computer completely freezes and stops working, the computer and everything is still running, but the mouse and keyboard stop functioning and the screen freezes. We tried to removing the ram and changing the positions of where they are as well as only using one at a time. We also tried re-adjusting the CPU, but the bios screen still kept freezing after a second upon entering. Because this, I am not able to install an os which I have on a USB, since my mother board's default setting is to read disks, and I can't access the Bios to change it. Please help. This is my first time building a computer and I really want it to be able to run.

Hi and welcome to Seven Forums Javx123.
If you have the USB plugged in, power off remove it. Try booting to BIOS without the USB and see if it works. Power off, plug it into a USB 2.0 port and power on and try now.

Thanks for the reply Britton! unfortunately I've tried that already, and it has failed to make any difference. The screen still freezes a second after I enter bios.

Only two other things I can think of are too carefully go over all the power connectors to make sure all are in place and fully seated. I have forgot to plug in the one for the CPU before. The other thing is the board may be a dud.

Yeah, I'm planning on taking everything apart and putting it back together again, but I'm wondering is it common for a new motherboard to be a dud?

No I can't think of anything else. It's not common for a board to be bad when new but it does happen, I've had some myself.

    Just a thought.
Have you loaded the drivers and chip set from the CD that came with the motherboard?

OK thank britton. And no, i thought it would be OK to download the drivers of the motherboard from a USB since i haven't bought a optimal drive. My friend converted the files to a USB and that's why we are trying to get into bios, to change it so the motherboard will read and install things from a USB since the default is from a disk.

This is a long shot but it is worth a try.
Power off the PC and disconnect it from the wall outlet.
Disconnect the HDD's SATA Data and Power, try the BIOS again.
    Does it still freeze?
