    Where has my sidebar gone?

When I was testing out the various betas of windows 7, I installed the sidebar using the information given and it worked fine. Since i have installed the retail version, I cannot get the sidebar to work. Has anyone any suggestions as to why not. I though the pre-release version was substantially the same as the released verson.

    Any help appreciated.

What sidebar and using what information? Sidebar is still part of Windows 7, but is no longer limited to the right edge of the screen. You can place your gadgets anywhere, or you can keep them on the side, but no "installation" is needed.

one important feature of good old 'classic' vista sidebar is the 'side' bit - it stayed visible on the side even when you maximised a window.

these days, you need aero peek to look at your gadgets.

i'm sure i've seen a hack for 'classic sidebar' somewhere, let me have a look to see if i can find it...

Hello Frank, and welcome to Seven Forums.

The traditional Windows Sidebar in Vista has been replaced by just having gadgets that you can place where you like on the desktop instead.

Gadgets - Add or Remove from Desktop

You can reinstate the old Windows Sidebar though if you wanted it back.

Vista Windows Sidebar - Reinstate on Windows 7

    Hope this helps,

    EDIT:
LOL, Mickey beat me to it.

Thanks to you all, but as I said in my original post, this worked up until the retail version. I now have that version and it does not work with the Windows 7 Professional that I bought.
