    Win 7 & First Experience


    Well just recieved my copy of Win 7 Home Premium Friday. , So I decided to give it a try. I loaded it on an extra 160 gig drive I had so I would not ruin my XP64Pro install.

    It loaded well, installed some programs that I had a hard time loading onto xp64 system. The GUI looks great, loads fast, works well, right until I wanted to share with my already running home network.

    I have 2 other computers runing xp pro, one is my hometheatre pc, and then a Vantec NAS drive. Connecting to these is very flakey at best. I can sometimes get a connection and sometimes not.

    So I have reverted back to my XP64Pro boot drive, I'm going to put together another system I have to run the Win 7 on and study these forums and when I can get Win 7 networking on my network, then I will try it on my main system.

    Just thought I'd share this with you.

    Hi Agian

    Ok , I have now installed Win7 as Dual boot with my orig. Win xp64 Pro, all loaded and seems to be working fine. As my computer is the fasted and best in the house, it seems to attract many users, who know how to push the button!!!
    I want my family to keep using win xp for now until I work out my networking problerm with 7, So I want to change the boot manager to boot to xp pro. My question is, do I make the change to the boot in XP or 7 ?, right now when my boot screen opens Win 7 is highlighted.

    I think you can do it from either OS using a little free app called EasyBCD.

    Should not matter. To do it in Win7:
    click start button, type "msconfig" in the search field at the bottom, click "msconfig.exe" in the results under programs, click the "boot" tab. highlight the XP os and click the "set as default" button, save, restart your machine.

    This should cause XP to be the default os.

    While logged in under Windows 7 you can go to Control Panel then select System and Security, then System, then Advanced system settings, under the Startup and Recovery panel under the "Advanced" tab click on Settings... then select the Default operating system and how long to display the list of operating systems. Easy as that!
