    Nothing shows on monitor after start computer / 2 monitor Win7 desktop

    My old Windows 7 desktop sounds normal on booting up but I can't see anything on the monitor. I may not have the monitor connected properly.

    A couple of years ago I bought a used corporate desktop PC with Windows 7 and used it for a while. Then I bought a new laptop and I haven't used the desktop since. Now I need to get a couple of programs off the desktop. But when I turn it on nothing shows on the monitor. The computer sounds like it's booting up okay.

    I am using the very same monitor that I used before when it was working. And yes, it works and I have it turned on. (I am typing on this monitor right now (with the newer computer)). This desktop has a large port for a monitor that you connect a splitter connector to and then connect the monitor to one of the two smaller jacks coming out of the splitter connector. As I recall. when I first bought the computer I connected my monitor to a monitor port on the computer which fit the monitor's cable and it didn't work. I contacted the seller who told me to connect it to one of the splits and it worked.

    But for some reason now it's not working. It could be something simple. It may have something to do with the 2-monitor configuration of which I know little.

    So my question is how can I proceed toward seeing what's going on on this Windows 7 desktop computer enough to retrieve several Visual Basic programs?

    Project mate soem system specs on that desktop would be handy ie what graphic hook ups does it have on the I/O panel and the monitor too.

    One alternative is to take out the hard drive hook it up using a USB to (I assume it is SATA) to SATA drive gadget and view it as an external drive. If it is an IDE one the gadget will still do it. See pic.

    Thanks.

    It is a Lenovo desktop. There are 3 stickers on it which say Windows 7, Intel Core Duo inside, and lenovo enhanced experience, respectively. There is a larger monitor port (I think it's called DVI) and a smaller one that fits my Hanns-G monitor that I'm using right now as well as another smaller port that has pins sticking out instead of holes.

    Just tried it again and still nothing shows on the monitor connecting it both to the splitter and directly to the computer.

    Will take the computer apart if necessary.

    Project mate a little more detail please use this as we need to look getting he right drivers etc
    System Info - See Your System Specs

    Download and run Speccy too so we can see the temps (plus specs) Speccy - Download < download from piriform

    Now the DVI is a graphics port and the the I am not sure of what it is so we need that info before we move ahead.

    Somewhere on that box is the model or part number.
    Know what ports are available helps greatly.

    What model Hanns G?
    Knowing what connections it has helps too.

    It sounds as though you have an adapter/converter in a port on the Lenevo.
    Please post a picture of the ports on the Lenevo and the cables (connector ends)

    Yes Mate thats why I asked for the specs if at least we could see the model number it would help eh? It sounds like it might be an older model but i stand to be corrected of course.

    Thank you.

    On the bottom of the box it says

    Model Number C6U
    Copyright Lenovo 2010
    Made in Mexico
    MFG date 1102

    and much other stuff

    The monitor is a Hanns-G HW191D manufactured in Apr 06

    My camera isn't working due to battery corrosion but I'm going to get another one asap.
    Running specs shows specs for this computer/doesn't prompt for a model number.

    Thanks, but there are a number of C6U models - I picked one and it only has a VGA port.

    Monitor: GO BEYOND with Hanns.G
    this has a DVI and VGA port.
    Input 1-> 15-Pin D-SUB (VGA)
    Input 2-> DVI
    The easiest thing I can think of is to purchase an inexpensive VGA cable and connect using that.
