Opened apps, files, browsers not filling the sceen

There is a transparent area 1 1/2 inch above all programs, text files and browsers, etc, displays that shows the top of the desktop. Is there a way to get the display to fill the screeen? Is there a setting or configuration that will overcome this issue?

    Thanks for any suggestions,

    Mary

click start and type 'snap' in the box, a box will pop up with the option to turn off window automatic arrangement. this should fix it.

Try alt+spacebar+x on the target window.

Hope I did the attachment correctly to show the screen.

Thanks to Fantail, badger 906 and MilesAhead for their response and suggestions. The suggested fixes from Fantail and badger unfortunately did not work.

I sure would like to overcome this annoying issue.

    That is wild looking,
Have you used any third party theme packs ?
Post a screen shot of your complete desktop if you wouldn't mind ?
    Cheers.

It looks like a Firefox Glass theme. You can see the minimize, maximize and close buttons in the Glass area. I remember I tried one FF Glass theme that used a whole bunch of space at the top. It looked good, but it wasted too much desktop.

Does this happen no matter what window is open? Really weird.

    Thanks MilesAhead and ThrashZone.
I have not installed or used and themes knowingly. It does not matter what file or program I using, I get the same screen issue.

Here is a Snip Tool capture of the full screen.. I hope someone can find a fix.
Every day I seem to encounter a new issue with Win 7! Now my Start Menu is blank?

It sounds like you could have prank malware on your system. I would start by running a scan with Malwarebytes anti-malware. See if it turns up anything.

Edit: the free version has the same scanner as the paid. It's fine for this purpose.
