    Locked and Shortcut Folders everywhere

I am not sure it this is due to a botched install or what but it seems that I have a lot of locked folders (even on my Admin account) and there are also a lot of repeat folders that are in the /User directories filed as Shortcuts. I included pictures to show you what I mean. Is there any good way to get rid of the clutter?

The shortcut folders are nothing but junctions of old Windows XP locations retained for backwards compatibility. I personally just delete them because I do not run old software. As for the lock, I have assumed that has to do with either a lack of permissions or one that requires an elevation of permissions before you can access them. In most cases the permission is given instantly if you have the correct rights.

    Similiar Problem

    Gator,
I'm having similiar problems and I believe it is a recent development. When I first started using Windows 7 about a week ago, one of the first things I did was to make changes in the Start Menu. I seem to recall that I did that in ProgramData / Start Menu. Today that folder is locked tight, and I can't get back into it. I'm quickly getting disgusted with Windows 7.

    The folder is "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu"
"C:\ProgramData\Start Menu" is but a junction that points to the above.

    logicearth,
I've got it now. Thanks. I find the "junctions" somewhat confusing. Unlike a shortcut, the properties window you get by right-clicking a junction does not tell you that it is a junction or a shortcut and does not appear to tell you the target.
