    64bit Creates a folder for x86


    I installed the 64bit Window 7 Ultimate. When I installed a game that run on 32bit, it created a folder 'Program File x86' in my C: drive.

    Every other application I installed is defaulted to install into x86. I guess it is because the last application I installed was a x86 compatible only.

    My question is, when I install new programs, should I set the path to use the 64 bit Program Files directory instead of the default x86. Does installing into the x86 folder only run the application in 32bit mode?

    I'm a bit confused on this. Any advise would help.

    You do nothing during the install process. Windows will put the files in the correct directory, based on 32 or 64 bit compatibility.

    You don't have to do anything as kegobeer said.

    Windows 64 bit includes the WoW (windows on windows) emulator that will let 32 bit applications run. It handles this for you.

Like i said in title windows creates folders on my portable hdd and read only and can not be deleted when windows is running folder names look like hash, one time i saw how windows installer dumped automaticly temp files on my hdd. Thats should be all.
