(Almost) dropped laptop, still working but very slow

Hi there.

I was unfortunate and clumsy enough to almost drop my laptop the other day. I managed to catch it in the air before it hit the ground, but it immediately turned off because the battery was moved slightly when I caught it. It seemed to work afterwards though - except, as it turned out, it's now incredibly slow.

I figure I have to send it in for repair, but before I spend money on that I just wanted to ask here first - could it be a software issue caused, perhaps, by the power being suddenly cut? Or is a hardware issue much more probable (as I fear)?

Do the following:

1. Click Start

2. In the search box, type cmd
3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
4. In the command window that opens, type chkdsk /R and hit enter.

You will be prompted whether you wish to schedule a chkdsk scan at next startup, type 'Y' and hit enter. Now restart your computer and chkdsk will automatically run.

Afterwards computer boots, login and do this:

1. Click Start

2. In the search box, type cmd
3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
4. In the command window that opens, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Report the output from the command window once it finishes.

on the bottom of the laptop will be a panel maybe 2. unscrew them until you find where your ram is located, and make sure one of the DIMMs (sticks) hasnt come unclipped and is now only running on the one.

Ran CHKDSK, looks like that fixed it actually! In any case, it's much faster now. Currently running sfc /scannow, will post results when it's finished. I can't check the hardware right now as I'm not at home. Thanks for the help, though!

Hi ..I had the same problem after dropping my laptop ..
i performed the steps u mentioned and as u had asked i am uploading the text log file which was created as an output of sfc \scannow command

It would be great if you could check it out and see what the problem is.
