    recover install folder?

Hey guys, i just got a new computer and only got 128gb ssd drive, and i seen the install folder taking up a huge chunk or memory so i deleted it. Now my icons are gone and some programs cant be installed or installed properly. is there anyway to recover it? i tried the restore point but it crashed and then i had to do a dos recovery and now that im back into windows, that restore point is gone.

    thanks.

    What install folder?

You could try Recuva, see if it helps but your best bet is to do a recovery to factory state. There should be a partition on the hard drive that you can access via the Start Menu or via a Fn key during boot.

Backup any data first or you'll lose it.

Don't know why the installer folder would use a large chunk of memory.

If you mean disk space, then it might. You may have a bunch of old programs you never use. Try getting rid of some .

A 128GB SSD is ample to run Windows. It just has to be organized the right way. Once you got your system back in order, post back and I tell you what to do.

Question: How much RAM is in that system ?

If you have 16GB of RAM, the hiberfile and the pagefile already eat 32GB of your SSD. Reduce the pagefile to 2GB and get rid of the hiberfile. The command is powercfg -h off. These 2 actions save you 30GB on the SSD. There are probably more potential savings, but for that I would need more info.

I think in your case a reinstall is the best solution. You mucked it up real good. And in the future don't play with the system files - and if you do, first make an image of your system so that you can easily recover.

I reinstalled everything not so bad with an ssd drive, I always turn of hibernation, but as for the page file I've read mix opinions on reducing its size. But I'll give it a try . And thanks for the image link I've always wanted to try it. Thanks for the help.
