Pinning a Dial-up Shortcut to taskbar

I installed Windows 7 recently and am finally making it look and behave the way I like except for one thing I would appreciate help with.

You see, I'm on dial-up... Don't laugh it's still the only thing available where I live.

When I had Windows Vista and before that I always had shortcut icon in my taskbar I could click on to connect or to check the state of my connection. Now I have to click on the Network Sharing Center in the right hand corner, and it takes me 3 more clicks before I'm finally connected. I have to go through the same routine to check if I'm still connected or what speed I connected at. Also, I don't always manage to connect on the first try so I have to go through that routine many times. I did manage to create a shortcut by opening Adapter Settings and creating one from there but the problem is Windows 7 wont let me pin that shortcut to the taskbar. I don't know what is worse... Having to go through the 3 or 4 cliks to connect, or having to stare at that huge dial-up shortcut all the time on my otherwise pristine desk top? Oh, and thanks for the little file that allowed me to remove the Libraries Icon from my desktop. Was really happy to find that little gem. :)

Any suggestion with my current problem would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Ellebrius,

I'm not certain as to what specific area you need to have open to, but maybe this will help. It will allow you to create a shortcut that opens directly to your "Network Connections", and you can pin it to the taskbar.

    Network Connections - Create Shortcut

If this is not where you would like to have the shortcut open to, then please post back to where instead. I'll see if I can get one for it.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Pinning a Dial-up Shortcut to taskbar

The first option didn't work because when I clicked on properties and then the General Tab I did not get the unblock option.

But the second method worked! I created the shortcut from scratch per the instructions and was able to then pin it to the taskbar. Perfect!!! Thank you so much. :)

The last thing that doesn't work is the Console for my SB XFI Xtreme Audio but I will download new drivers during the night and do a re-install tomorrow which will hopefully fix that last problem. :)

That's great news Ellebrius. I'm happy to hear that it helped you get you issue sorted. I hope the new drivers solve your other problem as well. :)
