How to disable away mode?

Right, Im up and running with windows 7 64 bit and it is the best day of my life! But on the icon tray on the bottom right there is like a little flag like icon in which when i click it, it shows me problems, The problem consists of the away mode system and when I click the link it brings up this...


Address a problem with Away Mode System

This problem was caused by a compatibility issue between your computer's Away Mode System and your 64-bit version of Windows. The Away Mode System is only compatible with 32-bit versions of Windows.
This problem is not critical, but you can prevent it from occurring again by disabling the Away Mode System in your computer's BIOS. Refer to the instructions that came with your computer that explain how to access the BIOS and turn off Away Mode System support.

Green Button is not in the power options for Win 7.

Just installed 64-bit Win 7. Everything works well except backup fails. The error is "Away Mode". Unlike Vista, not way to turn Away Mode off.

Suggestions? 3rd party utility? Trick? MSI board in HP desktop - now way to get to BIOS to turn off.

Actually, it is easier than that. No Tricks or Mysteries.

Open Control Panel and then Power Options. In there you'll have one of the three power plans selected (Balance, High Performance, and Power Saver). Click on the "Change Plan Settings" beside the one you are currently using. Now click on "Change Advanced Power Settings". Click on the + sign beside "Multimedia Settings". Click the + sign beside "When Sharing Media ". Change the setting to "Allow Computer to Sleep".

You're all done. It now works again.

I have just installed Awaymode for windows 7 32.bit,
at first I had trouble having my system reconizing the hardware I had,
but I forced it to include sugestions in Windows Update.
In my bios I have enable Quick resume mode ad virtulization technology.
Windows update sugested I download Microsoft Away mode after I logged on.

I did that, and my system suddenly accepted my Quickresume driver
when I choose to update the Microsoft Awaymode driver in device manager.

Quickresume technology is close with viiv technology
and no where could I find win7 viiv files to activate it correctly.

So I copied files manually from my viiv folder to windows folder, incase of major conflict, when quick resume operates without viiv.
Now my system starts up with the viiv logo
-and no conflicts arose, as though it is all installed.

Only I do not have any options for Awaymode or Quickresume
as I did in previous versions of windows. Win 7 just don't have it.

Deciding to feed(manual add) my original files to help move along other dependant apps helped.

- My agiea physicX card was no longer rejected but I had to include Nvidia PhysX overlap installation for the Agiea processor to operate,
one more installation over that and I should have working physix demo for the card, which is default.
For some reason the card processor files were only accepted after
the manual viiv files, then installed original agiea software followed by Nvidia physX. I read my ATI card was deleting a certain file to stop my Agiea card properties from opening, but this method solved that.A
ll the engine files install correct and the processor is reconised, even in device manager.

Now all-in-all - I am activated in the technologies but,
- this reminds me of the free to air TV we have here -
it's in HD but you need an analogue antenna to access it.
Go figure ... by the way that's no easy feat either.

- oh by the way - since I am installed with Quick resume, my power button don't put the computer to sweet sleep, but then a gain neither should the Awaymode drivers ...
I plan in testing hybrid sleep mode ...
when it come down to it, having quick resume is luxury. The system turns itself off and resumes in an instant. I have more dedicated graphics thanks to agiea and when it works it makes all the littlethings better to watch without delaying the system. Virtulization technology make everything just that extra bit pretty.

Again - like our free to air tv - this technology met us on the field where no real physx card is needed, but like real HDTV you get more channels, right?

I got rid of the "Address a problem with Away Mode System" issue on my Dell Dimension 9200 computer the following way:

1. Reboot the computer
2. During startup - press F2 to enter system BIOS
3. Choose "Power Options" tab
4. Select "Quick Resume" page
5. Disable the "Quick Resume" functionality
6. Save configuration settings and reboot the system

What is Away mode?


The "Away" mode is a special feature of Microsoft Windows in combination with certain computer hardware. It makes the computer look like it is turned off, while actually it is turned on. When Windows puts a computer in Away mode, Windows tries to make the following changes (if supported):

• The display is turned off
• The CPU is put in a low power mode (but still on)
• The graphics card is put in a low power mode (but still on)
• Sounds are disabled
• Keyboard, mouse etc. stay turned on but their input is filtered so running computer programs don't get any key/mouse messages (but the computer will wake up on certain input!)

Note that this is different than Sleep mode or Hibernate mode. In Away mode, the computer stays on (technically this is called S0 power mode), while with Sleep mode (S1, S2 or S3 mode) or Hibernate mode (S4), the computer is actually turned off partially. For example, the CPU and fans are powered off instead of running in low-power mode.


Advantages of Away mode over Sleep en Hibernate mode:

• The computer can record TV programs via a tuner card and/or share files while in Away mode. It can't do this while in Sleep or Hibernate mode, although it can automatically wake up from Sleep or Hibernate mode (to Away mode when enabled or else to full power on mode) when a TV program should be recorded or a file share is accessed.
• Turning the computer back to full power on is quicker from Away mode than from Sleep or Hibernate mode.

Disadvantages:

• Away mode uses more energy than Sleep or Hibernate mode (but less than full power on mode)
• In away mode, the fans are still running, so the computer will make more noise than in Sleep or Hibernate mode (but less than in full power on mode)

Why do I get the message "Address a problem with Away Mode System"?


You will only get this message on a 64-bits Windows system. The reason you get thisthis message is:

• In order to support Away mode, your computer hardware will expose a special hardware device to the Windows Operating System.
• The Plug-and-Play system of Windows will detect this hardware device and try to install a device driver for it.
• On a 32-bit Windows system, Windows will succeed and there is no problem.
• On a 64-bit Windows system, Away mode is not supported. There are no device drivers available and thus they can't be installed: the Plug-and-Play system reports an unknown device
• Windows detects the unknown device and will generate the message "Address a problem with Away Mode System"

How can I solve this problem?
In order to get rid of the message, you need to prevent the computer hardware from exposing the hardware device to the Windows Operating System. If and how this can be done depends on your computer system. In most cases, it can be fixed by booting your computer into BIOS mode and disabling the correct option. How this is done exactly and which option should be disabled depends on your computer hardware. For my Dell Dimension 9200 computer, booting to BIOS mode will happen when pressing F2 as soon as the computer begins starting up and the option is called "Quick Resume". However, for other computer hardware, the procedure to boot to BIOS mode will be different and the option will have a different name or be not present at all. So you will have to do some research on your own there.

Alternatively, you can just do nothing and ignore the message. The message does not do any harm, nothing is actually broken, your computer is working correctly and up to speed. The only thing is that you will see the message as well as an unknown device when looking in the device manager.

Note that many people will suggest that you can disable Away mode via the Power options menu on your windows system. THIS IS ONLY TRUE FOR 32-BIT WINDOWS SYSTEMS and only if you have a correct Away mode device driver installed. IT WILL NOT BE TRUE FOR 64-BIT WINDOWS SYSTEMS, and YOU CAN'T GET RID OF THE MESSAGE THIS WAY on your 64-bit windows system.

Just thought i'd add to this, after months of trying to fix the Away mode System notification in my x64 version of Windows 7:

On my ASUS M3N78 board (and i assume some other ASUS boards) you need to enter the BIOS and disable "AMD LIVE!"

I didn't notice any problems after disabling this, AMD seem to use the "Live!" word for a few different applications!

Seems to have solved the problem it has disapeared from the Action Center. Will reboot the pc to double check though.

Glad it worked for you. The simple solutions are often the best and most widely applicable. If this plan doesn't work, I blame a conflicting piece of software for resetting it after you're done.
