    Recycle Bin Stops Desktop working!

This is a strange one, I am running Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate SP1, this only happens when I right click the recycle bin and empty it, all of the desktop icons become inactive, the task bar works but the desktop area dose nothing, it is not possible to right click the desktop, its like the desktop has turned into wallpaper. Everything runs from the task bar and the start menu. Any ideas anyone?

Can you right click on your desktop and hit refresh? Also: how much are you removing from the Recycle Bin?

    Welcome to our Forum Longstay.
    That is very strange.
If you open the Recycle Bin and then select empty does everything work as it should?

This tutorial by Brink might help but won't hurt.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

There is no response when I right click the desktop, with regard to what’s in the bin any thing form one file to tens of files, it's a rubbish bin and I like to keep it empty.

Can you use a Restore Point before this problem happened?
Do you have a custom Desktop?

Give this a try: Recycle Bin Corrupted - Cannot Delete File or Folder

Not the problem you are experiencing but still may fix the problem.

The other possibility I can think of is a messed up Context (right click) shell extension. Use ShellExView to start disabling them a few at a time and see if you find one that is causing the problem.

The ones that have been added are highlighted in pink. Just disable a few at a time and see if you can find the culprit.
