how to modify folder view details for music files?

Good afternoon everyone, Here is the problem. I am trying to get a standard view for the files under 'My Music' and all subfolders. Does not seem to work. Let us take an example: In the My Music\classical\ subfolder all the subfolders below that are artists names and the files may consist of mp3, mp4, m4a, flv, swf, some txt, occasional mpeg. It seems that if the folder contains all mp3 files then I can select 'name', 'size' & 'length' and in folder options I select view>apply to all folders then it will display correctly. But not if there are mp4, m4a, and flv mixed or some other combination. Then (whoever is in charge of my computer) adds all the additional columns and I wind up clicking away to remove the offending details only to have to do it again and again. Is there a way to do it 'my way'? Thanks for viewing!

Then (whoever is in charge of my computer)
Who is in charge of your computer. If that is not your own computer, what do you expect.

I guess my idea of humor is not the best! It is 'my' computer. Perhaps someone with information to contribute might help?

    Hello fb2,

This would be because of Automatic Folder Type Discovery. This is when Windows will automatically change the folder template of a folder to match the file type of the last file added or saved in the folder.

The tutorial below can show how to disable Automatic Folder Type Discovery.

    Folder Template - Default

Afterwards, you can change the folder views and templates to what you want, and have them stick.

    Hope this helps, :)
    Shawn

Thank you very much Brink! I briefly checked out the two links then saved them to an OpenOffice doc and will spend time tomorrow to digest it all. I am sure it contains everything I will need to solve the folder riddle. But let me say one thing, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me. It means a great deal. thanks!

Sorry if I misunderstoor your posting. But my question was serious and it was not obvious that you are the owner of the PC.

WHS, Thank you. I was attempting to indicate that there was an evil being in the computer making my life miserable. But, we all solved the problem. Thanks.
