Intermittent screen flicker when laptop connects to external monitor
I have a Dell Latitude E6410 running Win 7 Professional (64-bit). I have it connected to an external monitor. Whether I choose "projector" or the option to show on both screens, the monitor on the laptop will flicker. Here's more specific information that may be helpful:
The laptop and a desktop are both connected to a KVM switch. I set the laptop to "projector" mode so that it will, of course, project on to the main monitor. When I am accessing the laptop via the KVM switch, I see its display on the main monitor just fine. However, if I switch to the desktop, the laptop screen will intermittently come on and off. This happens over and over. That is what I describe as the "flickering." It's very annoying as I work from home and each time the laptop screen goes off and on, I hear a beep in my headset.
The laptop uses Intel HD graphics. The driver date is 01/30/2013 and version is 8.15.10.2993. The laptop resolution is set to 1024 x 768 with a refresh rate of 60. Windows does not find a newer version of the graphics driver when doing a search. The laptop will also give this message when flickering:
Optimal Resolution Notification
This is not the optimal display resolution for the primary display device. The optimal resolution is 1280 x 800. Click this notification for more information.
Keep in mind this ONLY happens when the laptop is NOT being accessed on the main monitor on the KVM switch. If it is, its screen does NOT flicker. I'd GREATLY appreciate any help regarding this matter. Thank you. The main monitor is a Dell E772C.
