Don't ever trust remote accese even from a reputable company. Only let people repair your computer directly from the system. (Of course, the rule for it has to be a trusted person still applies.)

Many programs can be repaired like this - not only MS programs. It is always worth trying that option. Most of the time one can cancel the uninstall if that option does not come up. And if not, a reinstall is not a big deal.Open Control panel to Programs and Features as if you're going to uninstall. Highlight Office 2010 and click on Change/Repair. It took five minutes to repair Outlook, something the Microsoft reps should have known but didn't.

frankhad I think you first got connected to a counterfeit Comcast phone number. I've called the numerous times and they never offer to transfer to another company, however they have suggested I call someone else.

Thank you, Britton, for your reply, and your welcome. I've actually been a member of this forum since I built this computer in 2010, and posted a few times shortly after joining. I'm assuming those older posts have been cleared out, which gives the impression I am new here. I come here and browse every few months but haven't felt compelled to post until now. This is one of the better forums for Microsoft and Windows help.
The Cable-TV Industry was my life's work until I retired just a few years ago. Having started my career in Philadelphia, I'm probably more familiar with Comcast than most. The number I dialed was a bona fide Comcast customer support number. Like you, no one has ever transferred me to an outside source. But then again, virtually all of my previous calls have pertained only to Comcast issues. There would have been no reason to seek help elsewhere. That's why I feel it important to alert Comcast to this event. And, I'm going to be very curious to see how they respond.

That is indeed interesting info. Thanks for your background too. I wonder if someone (low-life ratbag) can intercept Comcast's, or anyone's, phone call to redirect them to a fake help number, where all they want is to liberate you from your money?

I wouldn't rule it out entirely but it would be very difficult. It would also be illegal and carry a stiff penalty. It would seem to me that the gains would not justify the high risk.That is indeed interesting info. Thanks for your background too. I am sure the scammers would prefer to continue what they are doing where the risks are minimal.

Of course it's illegal, but that doesn't stop the scum from trying all sorts of ways to get in people's pockets.
A lot originates form Russia, China, and old Eastern bloc countries.

yeah they call claiming to be from Microsoft, they usually look up the telephone directories and knit the problems for us . they called me once and I was on a virtual machine then,he's looking for the bios and it was dated some 7-8 back and he says that bios that old are a potential threat 
then he's looking for the RAM specs and it shows some 1.3 or something I don't remember and then he figured out that I was on virtual machine and he's busted just then to my amusement my bro.'s mario game over sound made me roll on the floor laughing

I keep one of these next to phone for those cold sales type of calls. One blast and they hang up and never call back. Not good for night calls and warning to others that may be in the house before use is recommended. In as much as the "Do Not Call" list is pretty useless I have taken matters in to my own hands for resolution.
