Tray utility to access extended keystrokes?

I'm just wondering if there are any Windows programs out there that provide quick access to extended keystrokes. I don't need a virtual keyboard.

There are several extended characters that I use occasionally, but can never remember the ALT codes for. Some examples are the cent symbol ¢, degree symbol °, etc.

I'd like to be able to click on something in the system tray and have a box showing the special characters that I want. When I click on one the box goes away and the character gets typed wherever I was before I clicked the tray app.

I have tried a few searches in Google, but haven't found any relevant hits, so I'm asking here.

    Any suggestions?

It sounds like a good candidate for this forum:
Post New Requests Here - DonationCoder.com

Please read the info about signing up and also about posting requests in the "coding snacks" forum. There are a few AutoHotkey programmers there who will code a small utility like this if they don't know of a freeware that already does it.

In the old days we used to have memory resident pop up "ascii charts" to get the symbols and the number. But what you describe should be quick to code.

Edit: The site is geared toward donating to programmers but read the sign up info. Mouser, the board owner, is not one to deny access if someone would suffer by donating. He's pretty easy going. :)
