New hard drive came in and still no luck. BIOS recognizes both the hard drive and the cd/dvd drive. Is there any possibility my windows 7 installer CD is causing this? I attempted to create a bootable usb drive because I do still have the activation key but when I select the x17 etc.. with the tool it says it's not a proper iso image. I'm not sure what else there is to do.

I don't think windows is booting because the optical drive isn't working I guess. I was listening and opened the disk tray. Noticed that it didn't move at all. I moved it and closed the tray again. Rebooted pc and choose cd boot and nothing happened, so I opened the tray again. It was still in the same position I left it in. I've tried different cables and ports. It shows in the bios. and when I hit f8 to boot from cd. But the odd is not playing the disc. I do not have any I do not have any USB drives and no $ to buy one atm. I just spent 10 dollars on these blank dvds. Not sure what to donow

Wish I could help you out mate as I have several spare opto drives as Ithink the old one is bad - it will show in the BIOS but if it doesn't work thenI guess we are stuck with the stick boot.

Now maybe if you haven't done it already is to reseat both the power and data cables to the opto they could be just a tad loose or even dirty, Another thing is you could run a cleaner through the drive too.

I am not sure why it is telling you that the version is wrong?? In the pic is the one you want from that tutorial.

Today is that day! I'm finally up and running. Since my usb wasn't working and my optical drive is also broken, I used my laptop to burn an iso image to a disc. Then did cd boot -> bootsect.exe /nt60 f: (found online) Got the files copied onto usb and booted my PC from the usb. Everything seems fine now. My keyboard doesn't work but I'm emailing the manufactured now. I also got a BSOD. think it said win32.sys? I'll be making a new post in the correct section with the mini dump. Thank you to everyone who has been helping me. you're all great people.
