    WkUFind popup on startup

I have a new eMachines running Windows 7. On each startup a popup appears asking if WkUFind.exe should make changes to the computer. I've seen some posts suggesting this request may be related to either newly installed 3rd party software or Microsoft Picture It program. I don't believe Picture It is installed. A few posts suggest it may be related to a virus.

I've found WkUFind in a Program Files folder. Trying to eliminate this pop. TIA.

See this File Information - How to remove WkUFind.exe error problem

See if MSWorks is in your Startup section of your MSCONFIG. If it is, simply uncheck it, and reboot.

    @beayty1: Thanks for the suggestion.

@Golden: No, MSWorks is not showing in MSCONFIG.

OK. Under Start > Control Panel > Programs, please click uninstall programs (but do not actually uninstall anything). I'm interested to see what Microsoft products are installed there.

Mmm...I think it might be the Word 2002 or Works.

    Couple of things to try:
    1. Can you find the location of this file? What is the exact path to it?
    2. Is Microsoft PictureIt installed?
    - Start > Programs > Microsoft Works (check to see if there is a PictureIt option)

If it's not found in msconfig and, therefore, can't be unchecked, check to see what's listed in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" and also in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"

    - Start > Programs > Microsoft Works (check to see if there is a PictureIt option)
    Path is:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\Works Shared\WkUFind.exe
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\Works Shared\WkUFind2.exe

I searched for PictureIt under Microsoft Works. Search returned no hits.

I see a Hotkey Utility underr msconfig -> Startup, but don't follow where I'm to look to answer your question. I've found a folder:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\eMachines\Hotkey Utility

What is the location of HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ?

Sorry, linux user here trying to help a relative with this new Windows machine....

Mike : the HKEY references are in the REGISTRY. Click Start, then type regedit
