Time now for that long avoided re-install of win7 on laptop

    Setup:
    Sager NP8760 Laptop
    Motherboard: Clevo W870CU
    Mobo chipset: Ibex Peak-M PM55
    HDD: 2 500GB Hatachi drives

I seem to have scrambled the system drive and a small boot partition
to the point where the machine can not be booted and has ead to the
error blocking a boot-up shown in the included image and shown in txt
    below:

    =========================
    # 1) Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
    # 2) Chose your language setting, then click next
    # 3) Click 'repair your computer'

    # Status: 0xc000000f

    # Info: The Boot selection failed becaue a required device
    # is inaccessible
    =========================

I'd already been having some problems over months and have
been thinking to re-install and start over after nearly 5 yrs. So,
rather than go into a long account of how it all happened etc . .
I just want to reinstall now. It's been due for a while.

Is there any chance the noted error in the attached image would
NOT be fixed in a full reformat and re-install?

My main trouble Is that I don't have anything left of my purchase in the
way of recovery sort of info or aids.

I have the invoice, serial number and windows 7 sticker still barely legible.
I have written the folks I purchased from and await an answer concerning
    recover/reinstall info/guidance.

Not sure if I ever had a re-install disc. Don't remember. And also
not sure if this setup has a recovery partition or the like. If something
like that can be hidden from acronis then it is possible I guess.

From working with acronis backup tools over the years:
I can say that the system disk has a small (what appears to be boot
related) partition of 200mb. I have long ago carved the C drive into
three pieces. 153 GB for OS, 200mb boot stuff, and 300+ GB for
    other uses.

There is also a second 500GB drive, probably 1/2 full with photos,
    adobe projects, videos and music.

I hoped someone here would either know from the vintage etc or be
able to tell me how to find out about recovery options on this
    laptop and access it, etc.

But really I need the basics of how to go at this. And so, hoping
some of you can point me to some walk-thru sort of documentation.

I haven't installed an OS since the early days of windows XP, so am
not too sharp on what to do with win7 or anything about boot recovery
    discs.

Any pointers or help .. will be appreciated greatly.

You need a Windows 7 disk. You can download that here Windows 7 Direct Download Links, Official Disk Images from Digital River You will need to go half way down the page before you get to where the English version is. You also need to be sure and get the correct version, Home Premium, Pro etc. Also get the correct either 32 bit or 64 bit. Burn that to a DVD and you have an install disk. == You will need that sticker with the Product Key that you said is barely visible. As far as installing instructions, that is here. Clean Install Windows 7 We will be here for any other help, This should fix your PC unless it is a hardware problem.

Don't reinstall if you don't know what is failing! First boot to recovery environment or any bootable rescue dvd.
    Is harddisk still accessible?

Sounds smart... Yes, the hdds are still accessible in some sense. That is, I can see them with the Acronis rescue disk. And could copy them or whatever so not too worried about loosing data... all of it is already pushed to a 4tb seagate ext drive.

I'm thinking it really is time for a reformat and reinstall anyway. But it would really suck if I spent all that time then still saw the boot buster error.

What do you think would be the way to go... far as rescue disk. And once in there... what... run a few kinds of disk checks?

Just a quick point to add, disconnect all other drives from your motherboard other than the one that you are going use for the install. This saves heaps of problems when the active partition gets put on one drive & the rest on another drive.

A reinstall is a good move in certain situaltion. But it would be easier if you had an image from the early days of the installation (both the C partition and the 200MB system partition) - then you don't have to worry about the product key.

Second best would be to reinstall from the recovery partition. From your description it is not clear what make the system is and whether you have a recovery partition. Try tapping F8 after power-on and go to 'Repair your computer'.

Final suggestion is to reinstall with the .iso as linked in post #3. But for that you need the product key - either from the COA sticker if this is a OEM system or from the original installation DVD.

Boot into BIOS setup to see if the HD is detected at all.

If so confirm the System Partition is Partition Marked Active
then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times.

If this doesn't help then report back what it finds, look over the other steps which include everything that can possibly be done for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot. Some of the steps utilize Partition Wizard boot disk. If you'll post back a camera snap of the PW drive map showing all listings we may be able to spot what's wrong.

These steps lead up to if necessary rescuiing your files to do a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
