Windows 7: Monitor will not wake up

Monitor will not wake up

Hi, this is my first thread, so please be gentle

A little while back, I bought a custom desktop from a gamer. It has all the bells and whistle, fans everywhere, plus liquid cooling. It has a Intel quad processor and 8GB RAM. It also has 2 ATI Radeon HD3800 series graphic cards linked together. It is running Windows 7 64bit Home Premium and I have religously kept it up to date. It has been running great and, when in sleep mode and the power button was pressed, both the computer and monitor immediately woke up.

In mid Feb this year, I updated Win 7 with a number of updates. After that and, it might be a coincidence, when the computer is in sleep mode, the monitor will not wake up, even though it has been told not to sleep. In addition, if I turn off the monitor when the computer is awake and then switch the monitor back on, it remains asleep, with the power light blinking.

I have tried both digital and analogue monitors. Sometimes, after a long period, the monitor will come on and stay on. The only way that I can keep the system going is to keep both computer and monitor on all the time.

I am not and never will be a gamer, only bought it for my amateur radio activities and also that it was a good price.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Can you do a system restore to the point before you had the monitor problem? Then you can add the updates in one by one, and see if any of them are the culprit.

Hi there, yes I was thinking of doing that. It just seems too big a coincidence that it happened after the "truck load" of updates. When I get a moment, I will give that a go. Thanks for your suggestion.... John

My PC won't wake my monitor after sleep
I know there has to be a simple fix to this but I'm banging my head against the wall right now trying to figure this out. Everytime my PC goes to sleep I'll press a button on my keyboard or move my mouse and it will wake up just fine, but the monitor won't wake up. I've also noticed that the...

Once again, I am compelled to guess where to post my inquiry, as I don't know what this might be about. I'm rather in the dark, along with the monitor: For the third time over the past few weeks, when I moved the mouse to wake the monitor a short while ago, what I got was a black screen with a...
