Yes, I do want to continue trying to find the answer to this problem and if I may, let me tell you what I am going to try next. Yesterday when I got the old Win. XP out and found out it having the same problem as the Win.7 , I started thinking about what the two computers had in common. With a wired mouse and keyboard hooked up they both worked perfectly. Change to the Logitech MK 550 wireless and they have problems.

In all the year's I ran the XP, I never had any problems with it going into sleep mode. For the first several years I just used the wired mouse and keyboard that come with the system. Than maybe 4 years ago I bought a Logitech MX5550 wireless setup and the computer continued to worked perfectly. The mouse went bad about the same time I put the XP into storage so I can't hook it up to see what happens, so here is what I'm going to do. I'm going to try and find someone that has a different brand of a wireless mouse and keyboard and try it out and see what happens. If need be, I will go and buy a cheap one to test with. What do you think? Worth a shot?

I can't speak for John, but I doubt he feel's you are butting in and I welcome all suggestions in trying to help me figure this out. When you made reference to possibly updating the drivers for the wireless mouse and keyboard, I got lost right away. All I know how to do is plug the wireless receiver into a USB port on computer, turn on the mouse and keyboard and hope it work's the way it is suppose to. All I use the keyboard for is to type. I guess you can do a lot of different computer functions by pressing certain keys, but I have never done any of that, and I have never gone to the Logitech web site and downloaded any additional software. Thank you for your input.

I do not know how long it will be before I get my hands on a different wireless mouse and keyboard, but will let you know the result's. If you guy's or anyone else that may be watching this thread have any other suggestion's you think I should try that are not very complicated to do, let me know. I appreciate your responses.

    John, this may help Larry:

Re: Unifying Receiver (Performance MX) + Sleep Mode Wakeup ‎11-02-2010 04:15 PM
    Solved:

OK the unifying receiver was designed to unify Logitech mouse and keyboards and that gave me an idea. I, like everyone else was having problems with my Performance MX waking up my laptop after I put it to sleep even after I unchecked the “Allow this device to wake the computer” check box, once unchecked any mouse movement while the computer is a sleep is interpreted by the unifying receiver as a keyboard input which will wake the computer right up.

I simply unchecked the “Allow this device to wake the computer” in Computer Management\Device Manager\Keyboards\HID Keyboard Device (Which is my built in key board on the notebook). Now the keyboard and mouse won’t wake the computer up but the power button and opening the lid does. Give it a try. this worked for me.

Source, scroll down to the third post by GSPSX: Unifying Receiver (Performance MX) + Sleep Mode Wa... - Page 2 - Logitech Forums
Even though Larry has a desktop and GSPSX has a laptop try going to the setting for the keyboard, that would be:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Device Manager\Keyboards\click on the arrow next to Keyboards\on the drop down right click on the MX keyboard\click on properties\ then the Power Management Tab\Uncheck "Allow this device to wake computer".

This is probably a stupid question Larry, but do you really need a wireless mouse & keyboard, as you mention you only use the keyboard for typing & you have also mentioned all works perfectly with the wired ones.
Sometimes it is easier just to use something that you know works, rather than spend hours & hours & extra money trying to get something else to work.

This afternoon I took the mk550 wireless mouse and keyboard over to a friends house and hooked it up to a Dell, running Win. 7 Home Prem. Before I did this, I watched his computer go thru a sleep cycle with the same power settings that I use. His computer had a wired mouse and keyboard and every thing went down right when it was suppose to and stayed down. When we hooked up the wireless, it had the exact same problem I have. It was not able to turn the display off at the first 5 minute mark and have it stay down. It came back up for 5 more minutes than went down again and stayed down. So now I have had this happen on three different computers. Hooked up wired, they work fine, wireless they work lousy.

So unless you guy's tell me different, I'm going to believe that if I want to continue to use a wireless mouse and keyboard that uses this Unifying technology, I will always have this problem. Like Ranger4 indicated, it's just not worth it. I will be getting some thing different, be it another wireless set up not using this technology or a nice wired set up. At least now I am reasonably certain that there is nothing wrong with my computer, and to me, that is a big item.

I can't thank you three guy's enough for helping me out. It was very nice of each of you to give me some of your time and expertise. I really appreciate it. God bless.

    Your most welcome Larry.

Larry, I dislike being the bearer of bad tidings......

I've been researching your Unifying Receiver; Performance MX Keyboard/mouse problems and have tired to stay with a current time line in case Logitech has corrected the wake problem, but even from the 1st of 2014, it doesn't look good.
There have been problems from Vista through Windows 8 and, the 10.6 to 10.9.2 versions of Apple-Macs. The Mac and other OS's are not supported, and a link about Mac Lion.

In the last two, even if the consumer gets the 550 to work there are problems with the, well, everything. No one can understand why Logitech abandoned the previous Revolution model in favor of the MX. All Logitech had to do was make the Rev parts stand up to a longer user experience. There is a better name for longer user experience, but I can't think of it right now.
2hours later I think of it: Durable.

The ergonomics, wheels, and buttons, don't hold up, are missing or misplaced, and I saw one post that if you want to use the setpoint feature once you engage it, it will only work if your HID's remain in contact with the Logitech Server. WHAT?! And don't even think about using the 550 if your left-handed.

I don't know where you purchased your MX but if you want to try and contact Logitech to try and get replacements or a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA), I found this number here: Logitech - Telephone Support

    1-646-454-3200
    Monday - Friday: 6am - 6pm PST
    Saturday - Sunday: 7am - 5pm PST

If you purchased the MX at a Big Box Store I would go and bang on them.

I also found: My Unifying mouse or keyboard wakes the computer even when it is set not to - Logitech FAQ and it explains all of what we've here at SevenForums have asked you to try.

The only thing I can think of here is to cross-check the PID_Reference in the FAQ's ( HID\VID_046D&PID_C52B ) against the number of your 550 in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Device Manager like Logitech shows.
If it doesn't match your 550, this is more ammo to bang on Logitech Customer service or the big box rep with. If your 550 PID doesn't match what's in the FAQ's. Tell them; I don't have the 550 your FAQ says will cure the problem! I want the 550 that has that PID number!!

Links to help find that PID or PCID: PCI Vendor and Device Lists and,
You will need to download this one to confirm it. It is portable and requires no installation: PCI-Z detect unknown PCI devices
You would need to have the 550 running on your machine when you run PCI-Z in order to confirm the PCID\VEN\HID\VID numbers.

This is for the faq's Id: 046D: PCI Vendor and Device Lists
And C52B relates to, if you scroll down a bit at the above link:
    0xC52B
    Chip Number: FC8708A607198-10F1043TA3
    Chip Description: N/A
Notes: All Input-Devices using the Unifying-Technology
My best suggestion to cut to the chase, and you would still like to to have a wi-fi keyboard/mouse combo? You have their operating system (OS).
I would review something from Microsoft. https://www.google.com/search?q=microsoft+windows+7++wireless+combo

When I started my reply to you I didn't mean this to be a malevolent report of the 550, but a preponderance of examples led me to a conclusion.

If there is anything you would like me to clarify, please ask.

My best wishes to you and your family.

Wow, but you did a lot of research on my behalf. Thank you. I did go to all the links and did lots of reading, and was somewhat taken back to read where the Logitech Specialist said this was "normal behavior", and seemed to imply it was no big deal to have to turn the mouse and keyboard on and off to get there product to work the way it should. I don't think I completely agree with that line of thinking.

I have taken the Logitech mouse and keyboard back to where I purchased it and got a full refund, so I am back to square one again. This has all been a learning experience for me and I thank you again for all you have done.

    Update

    Johnsmith45jock--Ranger4--Anak--

Yesterday I went and bought a nice wireless mouse and keyboard, not a Logitech, hooked it up to my computer and it goes into sleep mode perfectly. Life is good.

I am updating this thread with this information thinking that maybe this may help someone else who may encounter the same problem.

This is a great forum to come to for help. Everyone have a nice day.

    That's good to hear Larry.

Give it a few days, a week, to make sure everything is working okay and if it is, you can come back and finalize your thread by marking it solved. If you're sure now you can do it now, if something does go awry later you can always re-mark it Unsolved.

Its the green button next to the orange Post Reply button that only you can see because it is your thread. That really catches other members eyes that have the same problem.
