Control Panel -> Fonts Folder: Some Fonts Display Strangely

I am running Win 7 Pro 64-bit with 24GB memory and lots of disk with a Dual Core i7 930. When I go to Control Panel->All Control Panel Items->Fonts I see file icons, most of which have examples of the fonts they represent. The hidden fonts are grayed out. But I have a significant number of fonts that display the same preview on the file icon that is nothing like what the font looks like. Is this a known issue? Is there a fix?

    TIA,
    Dwight

I am pretty careful about the condition of my disks. The system disk is an SSD and I check it every couple of months anyway but I did run 'chkdsk' during a reboot without errors. As another note, there are 19 "corrupt" icons out of 1061 fonts. I also tried 'refresh' from the right-click menu without change.

I have now tried deleting and reloading several of the fonts without any difference in the icon display. And I have discovered there is at least one other font that displays a different font on the icon than the actual font. Most fonts, however, appear uncorrupted.

I have Eset NOD32 installed on my computers and update the signatures daily and run the continuous monitoring functions ... have had it since before I built my current machine. I also run NoScript and AdBlock on my Firefox. And I run the MS malware updates each month.

Given that I can't seem to find out how these icon images are created by Windows' font control but that so many are correct I suspect that it is some sort of corruption or incorrect use of standards in the font files themselves ... or just that they are so old. These are all free fonts and the ones I looked at are from 2006. It just doesn't have the feel of a virus. If you have specific reason to believe otherwise I am very open to running additional anti-badware programs but I'm feeling this isn't a problem worth solving given my level of ignorance.

Hum Dwight I am still not convinced it is not malware you might try running these two again to eliminate tis possibility. The Kaspersky will run from boot and therefore looks at everything the Emsisoft I used myself recently and found it made my main machine run so much better.

Run the Emsisoft first and then the Kaspersky for which you will have to make a bootable disk and set the BIOS top boot from the optical.

https://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/eek/ use the first scanner and when downloading any stuff like this be wary of those add ons that some come with and are usually crap.

5 Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CD for Windows: Free Download download from the link given within this link.

Both take very little time to run.

OK, I'll start on it tomorrow ... I really don't want malware on my machine!

Ran the EMIS scanner ... found nine 'no risk' issues, mostly keys ... I quarantined them anyway. I am burning the Kaspersky Bootable CD as we speak. I'll update as I go along.
