Getting safe mode back in 8 only takes a few entries in the cmd line. After that goodbye PITA, hello F8!
I ditched 7 on my desktop ages ago but still use it occasionally on my laptop. The way I have my PC setup, I use 8 like 7 anyway.
However 7 is going to me a main OS for many for a long time and there's nothing wrong with that at all.
I will probably be using mine until my laptop dies. After that, I don't know what I'll be using. But at the moment everything is working fine.
You need to use CMD? Nowhere in this Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode) - Microsoft Windows Help says anything about CMD.
Who knows really? As of now, I don't plan to change it for anything else if there isn't a strong reason to do so. Most likely, until I buy a new computer and it comes pre-infected with "9"/"10"/whatever, and 7 cannot run on it because of missing drivers (that's how I was forced into 7 for this notebook, in fact).
I tried Win8 in a virtual machine, and on a real install for some time, and it's really bad, despite some improvements, the UI is unusable on computers, it's for tablets. So 7 stays. I'm in the mood to try whatever they come up next, but for me to make a "spontaneous" migration, it needs to be a considerable improvement.
My other desktop is still running XP for the same reason, and still no plans to change it. Maybe when the next reformat inevitably comes.
I am also intended to use it still long time, but as i ve heard, there is no sp2 on the way.
thats really bad. is there a way to protest or let them know, that still millions of people want to use it more long and a SP schould be there ?
There won't be an SP 2 for Windows 7 because of Windows 8. They're working on that now so I doubt there will ever be an SP2 and I don't think you can demand them to make one. Every new Windows version is having fewer and fewer service packs. XP had 3, vista 2 and 7 only had 1. And when they're done with 8 they'll move on to a newer OS. That's how things are, sadly.
That's only a "one off" method and is a bit of a nuisance way of getting into safe mode (especially if the PC is having trouble). I personally find 8's new boot options a pita.
The method I use enables F8 to be accessed normally and permanently just like previous versions of Windows
You simply open an elevated command prompt and type:
bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy
When you restart, you can now use F8 again. You only need to use the CMD prompt once.
To change it back to 8's boot menu, you type:
bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy standard
Will be using w7 (retail licenses) as long as MS provides support and updates.
