How do I change the pinned items folder location on windows 7 taskbar?

So my computer decided to change the directory of my pinned items to a folder in my downloads, and I can't figure out how to change it back or find any information on how to do so. I've tried restarting the computer, scanning for possible virus/malware, dragging the folder to I believe default location of

    "C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch"

but to no avail. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? If you need any more information just ask and I'll try to provide it.

Hello Suushi, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Pinned items on the taskbar are stored in the hidden folder below instead.

    Code:
    C:\Users\(User-Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
What did you do to try and move the I assume "User Pinned" folder?

If you like, you might see if resetting taskbar pinned items back to default. You'll need to "Pin to Taskbar" any programs you want back afterwards though.

    Hope this helps, :)

Thank you for the solution in your link but unfortunately it doesn't fix the problem. I'm not sure what I did to move the folder or have the location it stores the shortcuts change. I recently installed Unity3D but beyond that I haven't used my computer for much else besides browsing the internet.

Here is some extra info, hopefully it helps.

If I delete the folder "TaskBar" in my user/downloads folder and pin another program it recreates the TaskBar folder with the shortcut inside of it.

I also don't have the "UserPinned" folder inside of the Quick Launch folder.

Copy and paste the location below in Windows Explorer address bar and press Enter to see if it opens the User Pinned folder.

    %AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned

I get a messagebox saying "Windows can't find 'C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned'. Check the spelling and try again.

I created a folder called "User Pinned" and a folder inside of that one called "TaskBar" then reran the .bat file from your link then restarted my computer. Pinned items are still saving to my downloads folder.

Do you have the hidden "User Pinned\Taskbar" folders in your Downloads folder, and not just Taskbar?

If you like, you could also create a new user account to use instead, and have it work properly since this issue should only be affecting your current account.

Only the Taskbar folder inside of there. I do have show hidden files/folders turned off just in case you were curious.

I created a new user account and you were right in that it only affected the problem account. I've decided to just stick to this new account and transfer over the files that I need to keep. Thank you so much for spending some of your time to help me with this problem. Hopefully this post helps someone else who ends up with the same problem.
