Disk management won't load

Pity this thread is marked as solved, as I have this problem, and, having plodded through the thread, I find that it was terminated due to the OP having a pirated copy of Windows.

The last ever post simply gave the way to fire up the console window for computer management - the problem I have is that clicking on Disk Management gets stuck with the message at the bottom of the window 'Connecting to Virtual Disk Service'. I checked that the Virtual Disk Service is running.

(I think) this is the first time I have run Disk Management since I did a Repair W7 from the original DVD, so it actually should be more perfect than before !!

Is there a CMD command that does the same thing? Any help gratefully received. My system is W7 Pro SP1 and is very legal.

I need to get into Disk Management as I want to re-partition a disk before dumping a load of stuff on it. As it is, I can only see the single 8GB partition, when I need the full 250GB !!

Well, for anyone else arriving here.. I got fed up and just did a reboot and lo and behold, Disk Management was back in business.

FWIW: I discovered that I could have used DiskPart to do what I wanted, if you have same problem and virtual disk service is running and a reboot doesn't fix and you are more in a hurry than needed the DM to be properly working, then read up the operation of the CMD DiskPart - it is also useful for getting rid of those nuisance OEM partitions:)

Our threads are never closed because they are found in thousands of web searches, for which reason we try to keep them current as best as possible, even when OP's disappear as happened here.

We use Partition Wizard here for many complicated operations which cannot be performed by Disk Mgmt. The boot disk has never failed, while all others except Disk Mgmt can and will fail.

As to OEM partitions, they are discussed in Clean Reinstall Windows 7 especially at the end under Special Notes.

If you have corruption causing Services to not start, then you can reset many Services or their Dependency Services - which are on the Dependency tab in services.msc, and without which the Service can't start either. Services - Restore Default Services in Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums
But there is normally a reason a Service is not started, which can be malware, damaged System Files or other corruption.

It is always a good idea to run a full Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware scan, check over the integrity of System Files using SFC /SCANNOW Command. System files found to be irreparable which cause continued problems and cannot be replaced according to steps in tutorial, may require a Repair Install.

But there is no substitute for having the kind of perfect install compiled in Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which has been used here by over a million consumers without a single complaint or return with problems.

I open Computer Management in Win 7 64Bit utlimate.

It was working correctly except (Virtual) Disk Management Snap-in/Console.
It kept showing 'Loading...' (later found that it did load after waiting for, say, 40 minutes).

Then I tried running 'DiskMgmt.msc', and found that it also kept trying but couldn't show any of my drives.

I had no external drives connected to my laptop when this was occuring.

Both of my 500 GB's partitions are showing correctly in Win Explorer and are working without much problem (they're too slow, and that's all).

What can and What should I do?
