You're definitely not the last of that breed. It's just that most people don't have three towers/laptops sharing one monitor/keyboard/mouse. As such, the market shifted to business and government applications, which is why all the nice ones cost a bunch of $$$!

Definitely not the last of the breed, I am also using a KVM (IOgear extreme miniview 4 port and love it, price point was good, about $250 if I remember correctly with all cabling required for 4 machines included). Server, Win7 PC, Win7 laptop on docking station, Ubuntu desktop from one keyboard and mouse. I personally find it more helpful to use separate monitors for each machine but RDP works for accessing my server and no issues with monitor if I run it through the KVM. I just don't like losing the display when I choose to switch to another machine if I am programming or tweaking.

Are you using Hot Keys to switch between machines or is it purely a switch issue?

currently i do not have any other machine connected to my KVM...my MB recently took a crap in my gamer and my wife is using my laptop at the moment...it all worked fine w/XP...i have not had the laptop in the docking station since installing W7 on this machine...so i don't know if there will be added issues with switching between the two. most generally i hot-key between units tho...

I'm having similar issues with Windows 7 recognizing my usb keyboard/mouse on my KVM switch. Windows 7 will recognize the monitor, but not the keyboard/mouse. I'm pretty convinced there's a setting buried somewhere that I'm missing, but... the KVM switch I'm currently using works fine with older OS and was pretty affordable. 4 Port KVM with cables for 40.00... 30.00 with rebate (it also does speakers and mic). I love NewEgg.

Newegg.com - Rosewill RKV-4UC 4 Port USB Cable KVM, 1.2m Cable Built with Speaker Mic Remote Flip Button - KVM Switches

only one last glitch... getting it to work with Win 7. The specs say it's compatible. The search goes on...

..ok... so I'm an idiot. A couple of corrections to the last post, if anyone's interested.. the KVM referred to was 50.00 with a 10.00 rebate (not 40.00 with a rebate). And.. while the switch did come with cables so that was one less expense, two of the ports were bad. Mine was NOT a window 7 issue. Mine was a user-headspace error.

Once I pulled all the CPU's out and actually tested the multiple cables, I found that two cables worked and two did not. I just got a bad one and didn't figure it out before the return period had expired.
