PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, Check Cable Error

I'm making this thread on behalf of my friend who's getting the PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, Check Cable error on boot with his old hard drive.
The computer works fine with another hard drive. The only problem is that he has important files on the old drive and wouldn't want to lose them.

Is there anything that can be done to access the files on the hard drive?

The computer runs on Windows 7.

Thanks a lot for your help.

There are multiple ways to access a hard drive that won't start the OS or a dead HDD.

Here is a list of tutorials:

Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Emergency Kit - save your files from a dead OS

I would rescue that data immediately because it sounds like the drive is failing.

Then you can determine this with certainty by running the HD maker's Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure extended CD scan followed by a full Disk Check, if necessary using Option 2 from the Win7 disk or Repair CD System Recovery Options Command Line.
