Obsolete prefetch files, can they be deleted ?

Can I safely delete a ".pf" file for a non extent exe file.
The original EXE program has been uninstalled.

I suspect the prefetch might be sabotaging one of my file-types actions.
I assume prefetch runs with boot

On my trainer wheels with prefetch

    Thank you :)

Rename it first. If no problems, delete it.

CCleaner has an option to delete Old Prefetch data in the Windows / Advanced section.

If the prefetch file is associated with a non non existent exe it is safe to delete but this serves no real purpose. It will never be referenced and eventually the system will delete it. Prefetch files are never referenced unless the associated exe is run.

And no it is not the cause of the problem that you mentioned.
